Storytellers

From our hearts to yours

Yeltsilewet, Faye Halls, is a proud member of the Squamish Nation and the youngest daughter to the late Khot-La-Cha (Chief Simon Baker) and Emily Rivers. Born on the Capilano Reservation in North Vancouver, her father instilled in her not only the importance of cultural teachings but the passion to teach others. Over her 40 year career in education, Faye worked with the North and West Vancouver School Districts as well as the University of British Columbia. She also developed an adult education program for Squamish Nation members and grew it into Eslha7an Learning Center, a full scale, educational facility for members of all ages. Today as an Elder and knowledge keeper, Faye brings her passion for education and storytelling together to share the history and teaching of Indigenous people in BC.

Candice Halls-Howcroft is the eldest daughter of Yeltsilewet, Faye Baker and the late Billy Halls. Like her mother, Candice is a member of the Squamish Nation and was born on the Capilano Reservation in North Vancouver. Her passion is to help people get to their next step and reach their maximum potential. She has worked in education and training for over 25 years almost exclusively with Indigenous communities. Some of her vast education experience includes the Native Education College, Tsleil-Watuth Education Department, and Eslha7an Learning Center. In addition to her work as an educator, Candice is passionate about working on creative projects that allow her to share indigenous teachings with diverse groups.
